B4 Component strength

Mechanical properties of micro semi-finished products and components

The main objective of the TP B4 was to shift the focus of the characterization of semi-finished products to the test micro-formed components. The new challenge here was that the components were smaller than a millimeter in at least two spatial directions and therefore it was necessary to first develop a suitable testing technology for both static and cyclic testing. On that basis afterwards the influence of varying manufacturing restrictions due to scaling up the number of pieces per time or multi-stage forming was investigated by the example of stretch- and deep-drawn parts.  Particular attention was paid to the fatigue strength as an important component performance characteristic. In addition to mechanical testing a characterization by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) took place increasingly.
