Influence of tool geometry on the process stability in micro forming

The objective of the project was the identification of the strongest determinants of combined tool geometry on the stability of a multi-stage micro-drawing process (Figure 1). The purpose of the project B7 was to determine the interaction between tool geometry and the forming process. It is necessary to determine which geometry changes of several sequenced tools lead to disturbances of the stability of the overall process. This enables the prediction of allowable manufacturing tolerances and wear of the tool geometry with which a stable forming process can be ensured in the production of very large quantities. To achieve these objectives experimental and simulation based analyze approaches were pursued.
